MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Raycom Media Camellia Bowl has come to a close and Georgia Southern came out on top of Eastern Michigan after the game went down to the tire.
It was pretty close for the majority of the game and that meant a lot of excitement for the fans. They were on the edge of their seats, braving out the rain, watching a clash of Eagles.
“We just wanted to support Georgia Southern. We love our team, we love our school,” said Georgia Southern fan Dawn Tumillo.
“We always come and support. We’re great Eagles fans, we’ve been through thick and thin,” said Eastern Michigan fan Sandra Rachwal.
Both teams are relatively new to bowl games, and fans on both sides of the ball said they’re happy they had the opportunity to play on such a big stage.
“We have been to the bottom and we are at the top right now," said Rachwal. "This is our second bowl game in 3 years, so its just amazing to us as parents.”
“Its a really big deal for me personally," said Tumillo. “I wasn’t at Georgia Southern when we got our first bowl game so this is a really big deal and a really great experience.”
In the end, it came down to the last field goal and Georgia Southern came out on the winning end with a 23-21 score.
“I’m very excited, coming all this way, we had a great season after last year having a down year. To come and win a bowl game, having 10 wins, it’s amazing," said Georgia Southern fan Roger Young.
“Win or lose our boys are better men for playing football. They are better men. They are blessed to play D-1 football and to be where they’re at. It’s really been an honor,” said Rachwal.
