TROY, AL (WSFA) - Reports have been circulating that Troy University’s head football coach Neal Brown will be the new head football coach at West Virginia University.
Fans were quick to respond.
“At first it was really sad, because he was a great asset to this school and this football program," said Troy fan James O’Neill.
“I was disappointed because he has just improved the team a lot and done some good recruiting, so it’s just disappointing," said Troy fan Bryant Rushing.
Brown has been Troy’s head football coach since 2015, and during his time at Troy, led the Trojans to three straight 10-win seasons.
“He’s turned the school around ever since I’ve been here since 2014," O’Neill said.
Brown has a 35-16 record at Troy along with three consecutive bowl wins in his four seasons as head football coach. The Trojans are 31-8 over the last three seasons alone and have one Sun Belt Conference title. Only a handful of coaches have led their teams to more wins over the last three seasons, one of them coaches at another school in this state.
Fans are hoping that Troy’s next head football coach will live up to Brown’s legacy.
“I hope they can find someone who can make the team better as he was doing and just not have a bad season," said Will Money.
Under Brown the Trojans sign its best recruiting class in program history.
Troy University said it does not comment on other schools' searches.
