ALEXANDER CITY, AL (WSFA) - The Alexander City city council has voted to move city hall from its current location downtown to Highway 280.
The vote was 4 to 2 and came after much debate. Those who voted no say they worry about what will happen to the stores downtown once City Hall moves. However, supporters of the proposal say the city has outgrown its current location for City Hall and that the current building is in bad shape.
The vacant Russell sales office off Highway 280 will become the town’s new city hall and police department. It will cost the city $9 million that will be paid over the next 10 years.
