MOBILE, AL (WSFA) - On Wednesday, Airbus announced it is seeking its first candidates to fill manufacturing positions for its newest assembly line in Mobile.
The positions are the first wave of production jobs announced for the company’s A220 aircraft assembly line. The open positions include Aircraft Structure/Installation Mechanics, Installers for Aircraft Cabin Furnishings and Aircraft Electricians.
The A-220 Aircraft will be assembled like the current A-320 Model, where its parts will be shipped to Mobile.
Officials says they are looking to hire nearly 600 people over the next 18 months for both lines.
"The first couple of waves will have the opportunity to do some training in Mirabel, Canada for about 3-6 months and then they will come back here as the production of the line starts and get to work,” said Stephanie Burt, Airbus Spokesperson.
Airbus is working in conjunction with its hiring partner AIDT. Successful candidates for all positions will participate in several weeks of training at AIDT in a combination of classroom and on-the-job training. Production on the first aircraft begins in Q3 2019.
