MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The annual showcase of talent at Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet High School has become a highly-anticipated event in Montgomery. Each year, BTW students offer a professionally-produced performance, featuring multiple disciplines within the performing and visual arts. According to the school, performance segments this year will include dance, music, theater, humor, photography, poetry and more.
BTW is considered one of the Montgomery Public School System’s premiere magnet programs. It is ranked among the best schools in the nation, according to US News and World Report, despite a devastating fire that destroyed much of the facility in late 2018. The high school has since moved in to an abandoned elementary school building. Funding for a new facility has not yet been located.
The F.A.M.E. Foundation is working with leaders in the community and within the school system to ensure BTW’s future remains bright. (F.A.M.E. stands for ‘Friends of Arts/Academic Magnet Education.’) Proceeds from this year’s showcase will benefit the F.A.M.E. Foundation’s work.
There are two showcase performances scheduled for this weekend. The first will be Friday at 7 p.m. The second is Saturday at 2 p.m. Both performances will take place at the Montgomery Performance Arts Centre in downtown Montgomery.
For those who wish to make an additional donation, the F.A.M.E. Foundation is offering higher-priced VIP tickets for the Friday night performance that include a pre-show reception. The reception will be hosted by ServisFirst Bank. Complimentary transportation from the bank to the theater will be available.
Tickets are available for purchase at the links below.
