ENTERPRISE, AL (WSFA) - A top honor for a top educator in our state. Enterprise Early Education Center’s Principal Waller Martin was named Alabama’s 2018 National Distinguished Principal.
Martin was nominated by other principals and selected from a pool of nine candidates.
“The competition is extremely tough - just to be nominated for the award to represent your district is quite an honor,” said Martin. “That is the ultimate compliment in the business. It makes you feel like you’re doing some good things.”
And the good he’s created in the system include things like helping develop the early education center for kindergartners and helping get public funding for a new pre-k program.
Rebekah Morgan has worked under Martin’s leadership for four years. She said staff at EEEC were not surprised he received the award.
“He’s the first face students and parents see in the morning,” said Morgan. “If he asks you how you’re doing he really wants to know. He’s so personable with all the parents because he truly cares about the students, parents, and staff here at EEEC.”
“I wake up with a smile on my face. I always say I’m coming to school. I try not to say I’m going to work. I’m coming to school,” said Martin.
The recognition also included a trip to Washington, D.C., for a ceremony where principals selected from other states were honored.
Martin says the award wouldn’t have been possible without his family, staff, students and parents support.
