BRUNDIDGE, AL (WSFA) - Jan. 24 is National Peanut Butter Day, an industry that has deep roots in Alabama.
Johnston Peanut Butter Mill in Brundidge was one of the first peanut butter producing plants in the United States. It opened in 1928. In its prime, the Johnston Mill produced and shipped about two-million jars of peanut butter a year.
According to research from National Today, Americans consume an estimated 700 million pounds of peanut butter every year. That more than two pounds per person.
National Today’s data research team also says 72 percent of those surveyed preferred smooth/creamy peanut butter over crunchy.
