TROY, AL (WSFA) - While his on-field staff is complete, Troy head football coach Chip Lindsey is still making additions to his off-field team. Friday, Lindsey announced he’s filled three more spots on his staff.
EK Franks, SaJason Finley and Jamaal Smith have been named to Lindsey’s staff.
Franks joins Lindsey’s staff as the assistant AD for football operations. Before joining Lindsey’s staff, he spent a total of six season in the SEC including last season at the University of Kentucky as the director of recruiting. The football team finished 10-3 and ranked No. 11 in the country. Prior to his year at Kentucky, Franks spent a season at the University of Florida as the director of player personnel. Before that, he served as the director of recruiting for four years at the University of Arkansas.
Finley isn’t new to the state of Alabama. A long time ago back in 2012, Finley served as the strength and conditioning coach and running backs coach at Opelika High School. He joins Troy as the head strength and conditioning coach. From Opelika, Finley joined the 2013 Auburn staff as one of five strength and conditioning coaches. He spent the 2014 season at UAB as the director of athletic personnel and recently spent four years at the University of Southern Miss, two of which were spent as the head strength and conditioning coach.
Lastly, Smith isn’t new to the Troy program. He starts his 14th year in the Troy football program after being named to Lindsey’s staff as the director of player development. He held this position the previous three seasons under Neal Brown. Smith is a former Troy football player - he was a wide receiver in the 2001-2004 seasons. He holds both his bachelor’s and master’s from Troy.
“It was important for us to find individuals who can develop and maintain strong relationships with our student-athletes while at the same time earning their respect, and I believe that we accomplished that with EK, SaJason and Jamaal,” said Lindsey. “Often, the off-field staff members are overlooked, but they play just as important of a role in our program as the coaches with the amount of time they spend with our players both in season and during the offseason.”
Lindsey is expected to announce staff positions for his on-field staff at a later date.
