MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - It was a case that grabbed the attention of central Alabama in September 2016. Now it’s set for a national audience.
A young teen and his parents were involved in an argument at their Elmore County home. Police arrived, then left. When the 911 call came in a few minutes later, they returned to the mobile home. Parents April and Michael Holton were dead. Both shot to death.
Who did it? The son, Jesse “Madison” Holton, was the only one still alive. He was arrested, and two years would pass as he awaited trial for their murders. But on the day the trial was to begin in late 2018, the district attorney dropped the charges.
Holton has since spoken with WSFA 12 News. Now, NBC’s “Dateline” is set to air “11 minutes,” named for the amount of time between the police leaving the home and returning to find the bodies.
Holton tells NBC News’ Josh Mankiewicz, “I have no doubt in my mind that the sheriff will try to put me back in jail.” Click here to watch the exchange.
The episode airs Friday at 9 p.m. on WSFA 12 News.
