Former Dothan High School principal Andrew SewellDOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - The Dothan City School Board has accepted the resignation of a former Dothan High School principal accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female student.
Superintendent Sam Nichols said the board accepted Andrew Sewell's resignation Thursday.
The board had previously voted to fire Sewell, who appealed his termination.
Nichols said the board accepted his resignation because it would terminate his appeal.
It would also stop any pay he was due during the appeal process, allowing the board to advertise for his replacement.
Sewell was charged in February with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for his relationship with a student who was 17 at the time.
He is to appear in court Friday for his first of four misdemeanor charges.
