DEMOPOLIS, AL (WSFA) - Officials tell WSFA 12 News the pilot of an ultra-light aircraft was killed when the craft crashed near a school in Demopolis. The Demopolis Times is reporting the pilot's identity as Mark E. Keeley of Forkland.
Keeley was apparently practicing take-offs and landings when the crash occured.
Marengo County E911 said state troopers responded to the emergency around 2pm. The crash site is located on school-owned property approximately 150 yards from John Essex High School.
John Essex High School is located just a short distance from the Demopolis Municipal Airport.
WSFA 12 News and our sister station in Birmingham, Fox 6 WBRC-TV, are working to gather more information at this time.
