ASHFORD, AL (WSFA) - 90 World War II veterans will take the trip of a lifetime Saturday.

The Wiregrass chapter of Honor Flight is taking their first trip to Washington Saturday.

For veterans this is their first time to see their monument and for many their ready to get the trip started.

After five months of preparation the wiregrass chapter of honor flight is now just hours away from their maiden voyage and for the 90 veterans making the trip they're ready to take to the skies.

"Oh yes I'm ready to go, I'm just getting my rest today," says Jackson Granberry, a WWII vet from Ashford.

Jackson Granberry was just 23 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army now 65 years later he says he can't wait to see the memorial.

"Well they say it's over seven acres big, and when you see it on paper it's more interesting, and I'm really excited to see it," says Granberry.

And Granberry knows how special this trip is he say's all the generous donations and hard work from volunteers is something he appreciates.

"For all of those that made donations and all of those that planned this trip it's a special honor for all of us veterans and we really do appreciate it and I'm very thankful for it," says Granberry.

Organizers have already planned a second trip, it's later this year in September.>
