Meet our Doctors

Sanders M. Benkwith, M.D.
Comprehensive Ophthalmology

Dr. Sanders Benkwith received his undergraduate degree from the University of the South and his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1973.

He served an internship and residency in ophthalmology at the University of Utah Medical Center, where he performed retina physiology research under Thomas Ogden, M.D., PhD. Dr. Sanders Benkwith joined his father, the late Karl B. Benkwith, M.D., in practice in 1977. Dr. Benkwith is board-certified in Ophthalmology and is a past president of the Montgomery County Medical Society.

A native of Montgomery, Dr. Benkwith and his wife Linda have two grown children and one grandchild. He enjoys a variety of sporting and church activities.

 







Tom Lyle Mitchell, Jr., M.D.
Cataract and Eyelid Surgery

Dr. Mitchell is a Cum Laude graduate in bio-medical engineering from the University of Tennessee and the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He received his Medical Degree, Cum Laude, from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1981.

He completed his internship in internal medicine at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. Prior to completing a residency in ophthalmology at the Eye Foundation Hospital, UAB Medical Center, Birmingham, he practiced as an emergency room physician. Dr. Mitchell is board-certified in ophthalmology and joined Montgomery Eye Physicians in 1987.

Originally from Birmingham, Dr. Mitchell and his wife Darby have three children. He enjoys fly fishing, tennis and playing guitar.

 

 






John L. Swan, M.D.
Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery

Dr. Swan graduated Cum Laude in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University and received his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1985.

He completed his internship at the Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, and his residency in ophthalmology at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans. In addition, he completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Schools Affiliated Hospitals in Dallas. He served on the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center before joining Montgomery Eye Physicians in 1991. Dr. Swan is board-certified in ophthalmology.

Dr. Swan also served as a medical director for the central Alabama office of the Alabama Eye Bank. Originally from Mobile, Dr. Swan and his wife Pamela have two children. He enjoys sailing.




 


In C. Shin, M.D.
Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery

Dr. Shin graduated Magna Cum Laude in engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1999.

He completed his internship at Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham and his residency in ophthalmology at Tulane University in New Orleans. In addition, he completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the Dean A. McGee Eye Institute at the Oklahoma University Health Science Center in Oklahoma City. Board-eligible in ophthalmology, Dr. Shin's interests include cornea, cataract, refractive surgery, eye tumors and glaucoma surgery.

Blending his engineering background with his medical specialty, Dr. Shin has researched and designed several ophthalmic devices, which are still under development.

Originally from Korea, Dr. Shin is a naturalized citizen. He and his wife Lee have three children and enjoy traveling.

 







Michael Bradford, O.D.
Comprehensive Optometry/Contact Lens Specialist

Dr. Bradford received his Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University Montgomery in 1976 and completed post-graduate work in 1980. In 1984 he received his optometry degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Prior to joining Montgomery Eye Physicians in 1997, Dr. Bradford was in private practice in Montgomery. Dr. Bradford is board-certified in optometry.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Bradford grew up in Montgomery, where he and his wife Alicia reside. The father of three children, Dr. Bradford is a very big fan, coach and player of baseball.

 











Timothy M. Meadows, O.D.
Primary Care Optometrist

Dr. Meadows received his Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Upon graduation he entered the four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, where he attained his Doctorate of Optometry in June 1999.

He served internships at both Tuscaloosa Veterans Administration Medical Center and Montgomery Eye Physicians (MEP), with concentrations in primary care optometry and ocular disease.

Board-certified in optometry, Dr. Meadows practices primary care optometry both Montgomery Eye Physicians - Prattville and Montgomery Eye Physicians - Sturbridge. He is a member of the Alabama Optometric Association.

A native of Prattville, Dr. Meadows and his wife, Kim, have a son and a daughter.   He is an active church member and an avid sports and outdoor enthusiast.

 







Crisse Holman, OD

Dr. Crisse Holman graduated summa cum laude from UAB, where she was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and subsequently completed a residency in Family Practice Optometry.  Board Certified in optometry, Dr. Holman is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Alabama Optometric Association.
 
Born and raised in Headland, Alabama, Dr. Holman now lives in Montgomery with her husband, Bryan, an optometrist, and daughter, Emma. She enjoys movies, spending time with her family, and being involved in her church and community.
