MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - One of Alabama's biggest campaign contributors and best-known plaintiff lawyers, former Lt. Gov. Jere Beasley, has agreed to be chairman of U.S. Rep. Artur Davis' Democratic campaign for governor.
Beasley announced his position in a conference call arranged Monday by Davis' campaign. Beasley called Davis "the ideal candidate for the time."
Davis faces state Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks in the Democratic primary next June. Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb is also considering entering the Democratic primary.
