REHOBETH, AL (WSFA) - An early morning house fire leaves one man dead in Houston County.

State fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze that engulfed the house.

Shortly after midnight firefighters rushed to the home off state highway 109 and the house fully engulfed in flames.

After battling back the blaze firefighters discovered the body a young man inside.  He is identified as 25 year old Mark Meredith...

"Make sure all your appliances are off especially in the kitchen area so there is nothing there that will cause a fire because people don't realize how quick they can become overcome by the smoke and not be able to get out of the residence," says Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes.

Investigators are ordering an autopsy to determine how Meredith died, but say preliminary reports indicate no foul play is involved.

"There is nothing to indicate early on that this fire was set to hide another crime," adds Hughes.

Meredith was the only one home at the time of the fire and no one else was injured in the blaze.
