ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - Officials say a 30-year-old Athens man who injured his girlfriend with a bag of frozen food and a machete also attacked two responding police officers.

Records show Shaun Joseph Turner was charged with domestic violence and assault Monday.

He was being held at the Limestone County Jail Tuesday.

Capt. Marty Bruce said Turner's girlfriend, who called police to her home, told an officer that Turner threw the frozen food at her, which struck her in the face and caused her nose to bleed.

He also swung a machete at her, which nicked her right upper arm causing a scratch. Turner reappeared at the scene and attacked the officer as he was trying to leave. He also attacked another officer who arrived to help, before he was subdued.
