MONTGOMERY, AL - Four months after Todd Strange vacated a seat on the Montgomery County Commission to become mayor, a replacement is named.

Governor Bob Riley appointed E. Ham Wilson, Jr. Strange's old District 1 seat Friday.

Wilson is a native Montgomerian who formerly served as a state representative and as a special assistant attorney general for the State of Alabama. He now practices law and is the managing partner at a Montgomery law firm.

"I am pleased to appoint Ham Wilson to the Montgomery County Commission," said Governor Riley. "This is an important position and we searched far and wide to find the right person for the job. Ham is a respected member of the community, both as a businessman and a civic leader, and I know he will serve the citizens of Montgomery County with distinction."

Wilson said he plans to get to work right away.

"I'm honored and deeply appreciative of Governor Riley for the confidence he has placed in me," said Wilson. "I look forward to serving the people of District 1 and working with the Commission to continually improve the quality of life in Montgomery County."

Wilson is a graduate of the University of Alabama and Cumberland Law School.

He'll take over the duties of the commission seat effective immediately.
