TURNBERRY, Scotland (AP) - Stewart Cink is now a British Open champion. Cink, who was born in Huntsville, beat Tom Watson Sunday in a playoff after the 59-year-old Watson missed a par putt on the 72nd hole that would have won the title. Cink won the four-hole playoff by six shots.

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Suspended NFL star Michael Vick's 23-month federal dogfighting sentence is ending. The federal Bureau of Prisons lists Vick's release date as Monday, which means Vick can shed the electronic monitor he's been wearing while on home confinement in Hampton, Va. Vick was released by the Atlanta Falcons in June.

ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Braves are hoping for another series like the one they just finished with the New York Mets. Yunel Escobar drove in four runs Sunday to lead the Braves to a 7-1 win over the Mets. Atlanta won three games in the four-game series and being another four-game set Monday with San Francisco.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - After running the athletic department at Southeastern Louisiana for more than two years, Joel Erdmann is headed to South Alabama. Erdmann will replace retiring athletic director Joe Gottfried at South Alabama. Gottfried announced his retirement in June.
