NOAA awards contract for Mobile response center

Posted: Updated:

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a $4.4 million award to build a disaster center in Mobile. NOAA announced the award to Complete Building Corporation from Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday.

The company will build NOAA's Gulf of Mexico Disaster Response Center, which will be the regional home to the agency's Office of Response and Restoration. That organization is responsible for responding to oil spills, hazardous material releases, and marine debris. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year with completion of the project in spring 2011. The 15,000-square foot building will house up to 25 employees and will be built to withstand a major hurricane.
