Two arrested in hotel meth lab bust

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -  A meth lab bust puts guests at an extended stay hotel in Montgomery on the street in the middle of the night. 

Two suspects, Siubo Souvannasing, 31, and Starr Sullins, 23, both from Montgomery, were arrested and charged with Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance at the America's Best Inn at 5135 Carmichael Road as guests in other rooms slept.

The charges aren't new for the duo. Each is wanted in Elmore County for the exact same crime.

The bust happened just after 1:00 a.m. Monday. Hotel security reported a strong ammonia odor coming from one of the rooms. Management called police.

Montgomery police responded to the call, discovered an operational meth lab and immediately ordered an evacuation of the hotels' rooms. Guests in twenty rooms on the third floor were told to leave while HAZMAT crews cleared the scene.

A specialized DEA unit based out of Birmingham had to come in to clean up the dangerous lab.

The clean up took approximately 1 and-a-half hours, but the lodge was not cleared until 7:30am. The hotel provided a meal for the guests who had to evacuate. They were eventually allowed to return to their rooms.

Souvannasing and Sullins are being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility under $60,000 bond.
