Montgomery, AL (WSFA) - Republican candidate for Governor, State Representative Robert Bentley will bring the abortion issue back up before the state legislature in January.
Bentley, a dermatologist will introduce four bills.
The Human Life Recognition Act will require doctors to tell women they are terminating a separate, unique living human being. The Healthcare Rights of Conscience Act protects the rights of healthcare workers who refuse to do abortions. He's also proposing a resolution opposing the Federal Freedom of Choice Act. It was sponsored by the President in 2007. Bentley says it negates all state regulations related to abortion. The final bill is an amendment to the constitution which would prohibit abortion in Alabama, except for in instances of rape or incest, or when the mother's life is in danger.
