FORT RUCKER, Ala. (AP) - A Fort Rucker soldier has been acquitted of all charges in his infant son's death. Fort Rucker Public Affairs Officer Lisa Eichhorn said a six-soldier panel unanimously acquitted Spc. Dedrick Fisher Sr. in a general court martial Thursday.
Fisher's son died Feb. 2 after he was unable to recover from brain injuries suffered when prosecutors said Fisher shook him in November 2008. The soldier was charged with manslaughter and admitted during a hearing that he shook the 7-weeek-old infant before rushing him to a military police officer and saying the child choked. If convicted Fisher would have faced dishonorable discharge and up to 10 years in a federal prison. T
he Dothan Eagle reports civilian defense attorney Victor Kelley said a neurosurgeon testified that the baby had suffered an injury created by a birth trauma.
