FITZPATRICK, AL (WSFA) - For weeks now, burglars have been terrorizing communities along the Macon, Bullock, and Montgomery County lines.
Now, residents, law enforcement officers, and the Bullock County Crimestoppers are teaming up to tackle the problem.
Residents in these rural areas are fed up with an onslaught of burglaries over the past few weeks.
Thursday night, dozens of burglary victims gathered in Fitzpatrick for a meeting organized by Bullock County Crimestoppers.
They heard from politicians and received a briefing from law enforcment officers regarding the ongoing battle with thieves.
Along with recommendations to take precautions and contact authorities, residents and business owners received some other important advice.
"I keep a loaded gun in just about every room. If you don't have a gun, go get a gun. Go get a gun," said Reed Ingram of the Montgomery County Commission.
"Learn how to use it," added Macon County Sheriff David Warren
"If you come on my property again, i'll kill you first and then I'll call the police," exclaimed one resident, fed up with the rash of burglaries.
Authorities tell WSFA 12 News a Montgomery man is in custody in connection with some of the crimes.
