MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The former president of the second most populous nation in the world - India - will soon be visiting Alabama. The first stop on his tour of the state is the campus of Alabama State University.

Former President A.P.J. Kalam, who served as the 11th president of India from 2002 to 2007, will be in Montgomery Oct. 27 and will visit with ASU President William H. Harris and the university's research scientists as he tours Alabama State's new $30 million, five-story, Life Science Building. The complex houses ASU's state-of-the-art molecular biology teaching laboratories and cutting-edge science programs.

Before his term as India's president, Kalam was known as one of India's most distinguished scientists and is popularly known as the Missile Man of India for his work on development of India's ballistic missile system and space rocket technology.
