TALLASSEE, AL (WSFA) - Approximately 185 members of the Alabama Army National Guard's 158th Maintenance Company from Tallassee and Tuskegee will return to their home armories Sunday, October 25, 2009 after nearly a year in Iraq. They should arrive at the Tallassee Exit around 9:30-9:45 am and proceed up Highway 229 to the Ft. Dewey Piper Armory, located at 2382 Gilmer Avenue in Tallassee, for the welcome home ceremony.

The unit members are scheduled to arrive in Tallassee on charter buses after completing out-processing at Camp Atterbury. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony on Sunday and to line the highway route with flags or signs welcoming the troops home. There will be a police escort and the Patriot Riders (motorcycles) will participate in the Hwy 229 escort.

The 158th was mobilized in late October 2008 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom and initially reported to Camp Atterbury, ID for a train-up period before deploying to Iraq. Upon arrival in the Iraqi theater, unit personnel were sent to two locations. They provided tactical combat recovery teams, maintenance support teams and force protections assets to support sustained ground combat operations.
