Fmr. Georgiana councilman dies

Posted: Updated:

GEORGIANA, AL (WSFA) - A former Georgiana city councilman has died.

Robert Wilson passed away Tuesday evening in a Montgomery hospital.

He was elected to his seat five times, spending more than 20 years on the council.

Wilson chose not to run again in the most recent election cycle because of failing health.

Mayor Mike Middleton said Wilson always wanted what was best for Georgiana and was instrumental in starting the local Head-Start program.

Wilson's funeral is set for Saturday.

He was 83 years old.
