New Ala. Assistant State Forester named

MONTGOMERY, AL - State Forester Linda S. Casey announced Patrick A. Glass as the newly appointed Assistant State Forester Monday. With a bachelors degree in Forest Management and a masters degree in Forest Biometrics from Mississippi State University, he is currently completing his Ph.D. in Forest Biometrics with an emphasis on forest sampling utilizing remote sensing technology (LiDAR).

Patrick comes to the Alabama Forestry Commission with an extensive forestry background. He has worked in the private sector as a consulting forester providing inventory assessments and management plans for a variety of clientele, including the US Army Corps of Engineers and the US Army. His research career includes efforts focused on New Mexico's Tree Improvement Program, ecosystem-level assessment in Carson National Forest, and directing field operations for wide-area forest assessments at Mississippi State University.

Other endeavors of Glass include performing as project coordinator for a joint Mississippi State University and NASA Integrated Natural Resource Assessment of the Stennis Space Center. He also served as liaison between Mississippi State University College of Forest Resources and the Stephen F. Austin Arthur Temple College of Forestry, coordinating the replication of an innovative wide-area forest assessment protocol. Most recently, Patrick was the Director of Operations for the Mississippi Institute for Forest Inventory, and Spatial Technologies Coordinator for the Mississippi Forestry Commission.

Originally from California, Patrick has also lived in the Midwest and the Desert Southwest, but considers the South as his home. He and his wife Teresa (Terri) have two children, Zach, age 13, and Zoie, age 9. Terri is a veteran middle school teacher with 20 years of experience teaching in Arkansas and Mississippi.

Glass will assume the responsibilities of Assistant State Forester effective November 1. This position was formerly held by Bill Baisden who resigned to return to his family Savannah, Georgia.
