OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - One woman is dead and two other victims are injured after a three vehicle accident in Opelika.

The accident happened Wednesday afternoon about 5:10 on Marvin Parkway just south of Crawford Road.

The driver of a 1998 KIA attempted to pass a 1990 Chevrolet truck while travelling south on Marvin Parkway, investigators say. The Kia was then hit broadside by a 2007 Chevrolet pickup.

Two people were inside the KIA at the time of the crash.

Lee County Deputy Coroner Charlotte Patterson pronounced the KIA passenger dead on scene at 5:34 PM. The KIA driver, along with the driver of the 2007 Chevrolet were transported to the East Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

Later the Kia's driver was airlifted to UAB hospital in Birmingham.

The deceased woman's name is not being released at this time pending notification of the next of kin.

The body of the fatal victim in this case was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.

The incident remains under investigation by the Opelika Police, the Lee County Coroner's Office, and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
