Birmingham special election to be held in December

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The city of Birmingham will hold a special election for mayor on December 8th. The election commission set the date following the conviction of Larry Langford on bribery charges last week.

Carole Smitherman is now the acting mayor, she has not yet said she would run for the office.

So far, no-one has announced a run for the office. However, possible candidates are businessman Patrick Cooper, former mayoral candidate Emory Anthony, Division of Youth Services Director Cedrick Sparks, former mayor Richard Arrington, Jefferson County Commissioner Willam Bell, acting mayor Carole Smitherman, and Birmingham City Councilman Steven Hoyt.
