MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Thousands of small businesses could get a break on their electric bills from Alabama Power starting Jan. 1.
Staff members at the Alabama Public Service Commission say the commission will consider a rate adjustment Tuesday that could save many small businesses $25 per month.
The commission is considering adjusting the monthly fee that businesses pay for being connected to Alabama Power's service, starting Jan. 1.
The plan calls for raising the amount of electricity that a business can use at one time and be classified a small business. By raising the amount, some businesses now classified as medium-size businesses paying a $50 charge each month would become small businesses paying a $25 charge.
Alabama Power spokesman Pat Wylie says the change could affect more than 22,000 small businesses.
