HOUSTON COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - The needs of communities and military installations are concerns both Fort Rucker and wiregrass counties have been looking into recently.

A joint land use study has been ongoing for over a year between Fort Rucker and surrounding wiregrass counties.

The planning is designed to lessen negative impact and create a better co-existence between the military installation and neighboring communities.

"To look at the impact at the things that Fort Rucker does, on our community on our developments, future developments," says Mark Culver, Houston County Commission Chairman.

In an effort to help the process the Houston county commission is considering a declaration that would make sure residents understand where they're building.

With two stage fields in the Wicksburg area, the county would have resident sign a form stating they know they're within so many feet of an airfield.

"Nothing to the property owner than sign something saying they know where they're going to build," adds Culver.

The entire joint land use study is expected to be released later this year.
