Bentley plan for Ala. healthcare

Posted: Updated:

TUSCALOOSA, AL - Gubernatorial candidate Dr. Robert J. Bentley (R) released his for increasing the accessibility and affordability of health care in Alabama Thursday.

"I spent most of the summer traveling the State, hosting health care forums and speaking out against a government-run health care," Bentley said. "The people of this state have made it clear to me that when it comes to Government-run health care in Alabama; their answer is No."

Dr. Bentley's plan includes such issues as:

  1. The portability and incentives of insurance from across state lines.
  2. Tax deductibility for the self-employed.
  3. Meaningful tort reform to reduce the practice of defensive medicine.
  4. The establishment of a system of electronic medical records.
  5. The establishment of health savings accounts (HSAs) for state employees.

The complete text of Bentley's health care plan can be found at RobertBentley2010.com (http://www.robertbentley2010.com/index.php?page=health-care).

On October 13, Dr. Bentley pre-filed a Constitutional Amendment that will prohibit any person, employer or health care provider from being compelled to participate in any health care system.

Bentley says the legislation will be considered by the State House of Representatives in January and will lay the groundwork for the people of Alabama to officially reject the universal overhaul of the American health care system.

Dr. Bentley is a founding partner of Alabama Dermatology Associates, the largest dermatology practice in the Southeast.  He was also selected by his peers as one of the "Best Doctors in America."

In 2002, he was elected to the Alabama State House of Representatives from Tuscaloosa County with over 60 percent of the vote.

In 2008, Dr. Bentley served as one of two representatives from Alabama on the Republican National Committee's Platform Committee and was elected as a Presidential Delegate for Governor Mike Huckabee, who won the Alabama Republican Presidential Primary election.
