TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Coach Gene Stallings' book about raising a child with Down syndrome has been reissued in paperback with a new section about the death of his son, John Mark Stallings.
Gene Stallings wrote "Another Season" in 1997. It covered the first 34 years of John Mark Stallings' life. He died in 2008 at the age of 46.
Now, Gene Stallings has added a six-page section that shares joyful and heartbreaking moments from the final years of his son's life.
The former Alabama coach calls his son's death the "saddest day of my life." But he said when he meets people, they often bring up the book and talk about how they were inspired by his son, even though they never met him.
Stallings lives on a ranch in Paris, Texas.
