Though it was revealed last month that Dennis Hopper has prostate cancer, the 73-year-old actor says he's been battling the disease for nine years and has started an experimental treatment.

''It has great promise,'' Hopper told The Associated Press of the remedy he's receiving from the University of Southern California. ''Everything's good right now.''

Over the weekend, Hopper, a big horse-racing enthusiast, attended the Breeders' Cup in support of the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the event's official charity.

Hopper recently was hospitalized in New York for flulike symptoms and a stomach ailment and was forced to back out of a number of TV appearances. He checked out after being treated for dehydration.
