BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Acting Birmingham Mayor Carole Smitherman wants to make her "current job permanent". Smitherman announced Tuesday that she is running for mayor.
The special election to replace former Mayor Larry Langford will be held December 8th.
Smitherman joins an already crowded field of candidates.

Ernie S. Dunn told FOX6 News Tuesday he is a resident of Hoover, but is looking to move to Birmingham.
