ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Drew Butler knew it was in his genes to kick a football. Still, he managed to take a slightly different path than his father.
The son of former Georgia and NFL place-kicker Kevin Butler is punting for the Bulldogs, and what a job he's doing. The third-year sophomore leads the nation in both punting average (49.2 yards) and net punting (44.0), 1 of the few bright spots in a disappointing season.
Drew Butler didn't start playing football until he was in 10th grade, but he quickly showed he had a leg for punting. His father starred at Georgia during the early 1980s and went on to become the leading scorer in Chicago Bears history during a 13-year pro career.
