Remembering Marcus Alloway

There's a missing link in a Montgomery family, an integral piece of what makes their house a home and a school proud.  That link is 17 year old Marcus Alloway.

His mother, Barbara Alloway Smoke sobs, "Marcus was a very energetic child, he never really had a bored moment, unless he was asleep."

"My son didn't leave here just any kind of way, he was somebody special." states Gregory Alloway.

And Alloway's upbeat personality will be dearly missed, as this heartbroken family tries to find some blessing in their loss.

"He went there and talked to my mother, he said Granny, I love you.  What are you cooking for Thanksgiving; but he won't be there."

But his parents will; remembering the young person who brought some much life into their home and the senseless violence that took him away.

"My son has been taken away from me by someone who didn't care about lives at sake.  I'm hoping justice will be served for my son for the future he didn't get to have."

And his parents thrived on his energy. Now, that energy is giving them strength to tell his story.

"Marcus had a way to your heart, he had a way to encourage me when I was down."

Two things were at the center of Alloway's heart - his family - and his school - Sidney Lanier.

"He said mom, I want to grad as a Poet of Lanier. He loved Lanier High School."

After high school Alloway had planned to become a firefighter, simply because he wanted to save lives.

Now, Marcus Alloway's family finds comfort in the fact that he was carrying out his mission when he was shot.
