Birmingham, AL (WSFA) - Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Artur Davis faced criticism from the Reverend Jesse Jackson for his vote against the health care reform. Reverend Jackson told a Washington paper, "You [Artur Davis] can't vote against health care and call yourself a black man." The comment was made during a Congressional Black Caucus event on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the group "Community First Birmingham" said, "Unless something changes, the group will not support him [Davis] in the governor's race.
Davis had no response to Community First Birmingham's comment. Davis did say, "he and Reverend Jackson spoke and expressed their respect for one another."
Davis spoke at a legal conference Friday at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center in Montgomery.
