FAIRFIELD, Ala. (AP) - Police say an adult victim who was struck along with 10 children after a woman lost control of her car outside a Fairfield middle school has died.
Fairfield Police Chief Pat Mardis did not release the woman's identity Friday night.
Witnesses tell the Birmingham News that a woman was trying to avoid children playing in the street outside the school when she lost control of the car.
Mardis said one child is in serious condition at Children's Hospital in Birmingham with internal injuries and the adult victim is listed in critical condition at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. The other victims suffered bruises and fractures.
Children's Hospital spokesman Garland Stansell said three children taken there have been discharged and three others were admitted in serious and fair condition.
Mardis said the driver, whose name had not been confirmed by authorities, is being questioned.
