ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - State troopers say a three-car wreck left four people injured at an intersection near a new school site near Athens where education officials have been trying to get a traffic light approved.
The Friday pileup happened around 8:35 a.m.
The News-Courier reported that Limeston County Schools Superintendent Barry Carroll has been trying to get the Alabama Department of Transportation to put in a light at the intersection of at U.S. 72 and Hardy Road.
ALDOT director Joe McInnes initially rejected Carroll's request. But after a fatal wreck at the intersection, McInnes told Caroll he would reconsider.
The traffic count on 72 doesn't meet federal guidelines for a stop light, but ALDOT is allowed to make exceptions.
