ATHENS, GA (WSFA) - The people for the ethical treatment of animals, or PETA, is weighing in on the future mascot for the University of Georgia.
The group is pushing for a robotic UGA instead of the usual live bulldog.
UGA VII, the latest in a line of English Bulldogs serving as the mascot, died last week due to heart related causes.
In a statement on its website, PETA blamed the death on inbreeding.
The group also said a fitting tribute to the dog's memory would be to stop the inbreeding of bulldogs, which adds to the problems of overpopulation in shelters.
So far the organization isn't getting much support in its push for robots.
