Troopers: Semmes man 3rd to die in holiday wrecks

Associated Press - November 27, 2009 7:24 PM ET

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - State troopers say a Semmes man has become the third person to die in a traffic crash during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Troopers report that 27-year-old Jeremy Michael Evans was killed at 5:25 a.m. Friday when his 1998 pickup was struck by an 18-wheeler in Mobile County.

Officials say Evans was traveling south when he ran a traffic light at U.S. 98.

There also were two fatalities in north Alabama.

Troopers said 21-year-old Joseph Malone of Athens wasn't wearing a seat belt when he lost control of his car on Thanksgiving day.

They said 71-year-old Jerry Long was killed early Thursday when the golf cart he was driving collided with a pickup near a golf course about five miles from Athens.

The truck driver, 23-year-old Richard Menefee of Athens, wasn't injured.
