PELHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police in Pelham say an officer was shot to death during a traffic stop on Interstate 65.
Police issued a news release saying the shooting took place late Thursday night, a few minutes before midnight.
They say a man has been arrested in connection with the officer's death.
Police did not immediately release the name of the officer or the suspect in the shooting.
Shelby County authorities say a portion of I-65 was closed after the shooting and did not know when it will reopen.
