SALEM, AL (WSFA) - A three vehicle collision Thursday night has claimed the life of a Lee County woman.

41-year-old Rhonda Renee Howard of Smiths Station died in the accident that occurred around 5:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of Lee Road 240 in Salem.

According to witness accounts, Howard was traveling east on Lee Road 240 when she drifted into the west bound lane of traffic. She first side swiped a small pickup and then struck a full-sized pickup head-on.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris pronounced Howard dead at the scene at 6:20 p.m., the drivers of the other two vehicles were not seriously injured. Howard was wearing her seatbelt and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident.

Lee Road 240 was closed for about two hours until the road could be cleared. The incident remains under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
