Crenshaw County EMA: Watching the skies

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - When you get right down to it, Jessica Tomlin-Seabrook is the Crenshaw County Emergency Management Agency.

The recent rain wreaked havoc on her slice of the state.  A river nearly flooded a bridge in Luverne.  Mother nature's downpours wiped out 18 roads.

"It's devastating to the county and people just trying to get to work. Our school systems have luckily been able to stay open," Tomlin-Seabrook explained.

The already wet conditions are causing quite a few headaches.

"It's costing me a lot in fuel because I've got to make detours around these bridges and drive extra miles that I normally wouldn't have to drive," said Steve Turner of Andalusia.

Things are getting tense.   Tomlin-Seabrook and county engineers are waiting for whatever weather comes their way.

"The highway department has worked so hard to get everything patched up, and 2 to 3 inches of rain is going to demolish everything they've done," Tomlin-Seabrook said.

Though their recovery efforts could be washed away, residents seem to think the conditions can't get any worse.

"Everything's already messed up. I don't think it could do much more damage," Turner said.

As of Thursday night, only 6 of 18 flooded roads have been repaired.  Residents in Dozier are also reporting heavy flooding because of the rain.
