MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow recalls memorizing the state song "Alabama" in the fourth grade, but it's not a tune he's likely to hum today.
The Democrat from Red Bay has introduced legislation to change "Alabama" to the state anthem and make the state song "Stars Fell on Alabama."
Morrow says Alabama needs a state song that's catchy and that can be used to promote tourism.
Former state legislator Jack Biddle of Gardendale proposed similar legislation in 2000, but it failed. Biddle says he still believes the change is needed because people everywhere recognize "Stars Fell on Alabama."
