The Democrats want some internal State Department documents, the administration says they're not relevant. This tiff, another in the battle between Democrats and Republicans, could push the John Bolton confirmation vote to next month and put any vote on former Alabama Attorney General off for a while as well.
The records requested by the Democrats are from 2003 and deal with Bolton's assessment of Syria's threat to the U.S.
A cloture motion to limit debate on the nomination of Bolton to be the U.S. representative to the United Nations started at 5 p.m. Central on Thursday. When it finally ended, the motion to end debate had been defeated 56-42, and it is not known for sure when Bolton will be brought back up, although June 7th has been mentioned as a possiblity.
The cloture vote combined with the Senate's scheduled Memorial Day recess all of next week means the confirmation vote on Alabama's former Attorney General Bill Pryor will come up sometime in June.
The Senate is scheduled to first take up the nomination of Janice Rogers Brown at 1 p.m. Central on June 6th.
