Alabama to Receive Rita Evacuees

Alabama officials are prepared to receive about 1,500 evacuees from Hurricane Rita. Governor Bob Riley says he was contacted Friday by FEMA for housing the evacuees from Louisiana. They were expected to arrive over the weekend.

The evacuees were expected to move into Fort McClellan, the former Army base in Anniston; the Gardendale Civic Center and Trussville Baptist Church, both locations near Birmingham.
