Daniel Platt taught seventh grade Language Arts at Millbrook Middle. He's now charged with sodomy and sexual abuse of a young girl. "I think a lot of people in the community will be shocked," says District Attorney Randall Houston.
Houston says the alleged abuse took place last November and didn't happen on campus. The girl isn't a student at the school. "The girl notified a parent. The parent then took action," adds Houston.
Platt resigned Tuesday before the board knew about the investigation. Houston says if he or the investigators felt another child was in danger, they would have contacted the school immediately. He adds, "It always concerns us when a teacher or someone we entrust our children to is involved in a crime of this nature."
Platt taught at the school for nine years. Investigators feel this is the only child he abused, but Houston says if you have a concern call Millbrook police at 285-6832.
