Bo BiceThousands of people crammed into Montgomery's downtown over the weekend for the city's annual music festival, Jubilee CityFest. As many as 50,000 people were expected, but final attendance figures weren't expected until later in the week.
Sunday ended with a concert by American Idol contestant and Alabama native Bo Bice.
The top acts on Friday included Dwight Yoakam, the Neville Brothers, and Live. Saturday, spectators heard from R&B singer Ciara, John Kay & Steppenwolf, and country crooner Sara Evans.
Temperatures hit the mid-90's, prompting Jubilee organizers to issue some cautionary advice. They recommended that visitors use sunscreen and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Organizers say crews were busy late in the night cleaning up downtown. There could still be some evidence of the festival Monday, but since it's a holiday, organizers say it shouldn't hamper downtown traffic.
Jubilee CityFest has been around for 30 years and Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright calls it a "tremendous event for the city."
Bright said a lot of planning goes on behind the scenes and the city does much of the work.
"Our maintenance department sets it up. Our sanitation department helps maintain the cleanliness of it and the police department and fire departments help maintain the safety," Bright said.
There were no real problems during this year's festival. Although there were some scary moments for some during Friday's fireworks display. One of the large fireworks blew up too close to the ground.
The resulting explosion sent firefighters scrambling. Many spectators also reported the blast to the WSFA 12 Newsroom.
A Jubilee spokesman says low level explosions are routine and no one was hurt.
